Safety Director (ON-SITE)

Summary

The Safety Director is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day safety activities, including all compliance related matters for both the office and the plant. This position will work closely with several other departments, including maintenance, production, human resources and other areas without having direct control over these areas. In addition, this position will utilize others in the plant, to assist with safety throughout the facility. Strong collaboration, teamwork and communication skills will be required. Must be willing to stay late/arrive early and on occasion work off shifts as needed. Some weekend work may also be required. Incumbent must be a team player in order to be successful. The Safety Manager will report to this position. This is a hands-on position, and spending time in the plant/on the floor is a requirement of the role.

Safety/Safety Compliance

  • Take ownership over all building related safety and safety compliance
  • Safety training tracking and reporting
  • Regular safety audits
  • Conduct new employee orientation safety presentation and plant tour for Libman employees as well as temporary/agency employees
  • Print out sales materials and prepare electronic files for customers
  • Manage workers' compensation
  • Responsible for all safety related components for both the office and plant

Safety Enforcement/Communication

  • Take ownership over all building related safety and safety compliance
  • Ownership over safety training of current employees, as well as new hires
  • Strong partnership with Director of Manufacturing, Warehouse Director and Facilities Manager to ensure safety concerns and needs are addressed and given the highest priority
  • Investigate safety incidents and implement corrective action
  • Communicate safety regularly to all employees
  • Submit proper OSHA forms and files for review
  • Communicate and direct new regulations and procedures to personnel

Employee Safety

  • Provide first aid when needed
  • Personally transport any employee needing further treatment if ambulance is not necessary

Emergency Preparedness

  • Regular safety drills, both take cover and evacuation
  • Develop and implement emergency preparedness plans
  • Member of Crisis Management Team, playing a lead role in the safety discussions and implementation of safety practices

Environmental Responsibilities

  • Storm water permit/training:
    • Quarterly Visual Observations
    • Preventative maintenance inspections
    • Quarterly Facility Inspections
    • Documentation of any event which would require inspection, results of the inspection, and any subsequent corrective maintenance activity
       
  • Tier 2 Reporting/training:
    • Any chemical stored over 10,000 pounds or
    • Any Extremely Hazardous Substance (EHS) stored over 500 pounds or over its threshold planning quantity (whichever is less)
       
  • ROSS air permit
  • RCRA and Hazardous Waste weekly inspections/waste manifests/ training
  • Class K discharge permit and training
  • SPCC inspections/training
  • Safety Data Sheet management

Other Responsibilities

  • Act as back-up to other positions as needed
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in safety related field
  • Must be aware of all safety and compliance rules/standards
  • Previous safety experience in a manufacturing or production environment
  • EMT trained, or willingness to gain EMT certification in a reasonable timeframe
  • Ability to make decisions and act quickly
  • Ability to work with other areas without direct supervisory control
  • Strong communication skills are imperative
  • Previous supervisory/management experience
  • Will require ample standing and walking
  • May require some bending, twisting and lifting
  • English and Spanish speaking is a plus
